POINTE is a prototype for a pen-based elevator diagnostic and monitoring tool that we created for a the Schindler Elevator Company.

My group conducted several interviews with an elevator technician on the job site to understand his working environment and how he monitored and diagnosed problems. We also analyzed the elevator company's current diagnostic software. In the end we developed a Tablet PC application that addressed the following problems:

1. The old software did not accommodate the mobile nature of the technician's job;
2. it did not allow comparison of data from multiple sources;
3. and it lacked integration of error messages and solutions.
