How to completely remove a file from the repository's history?

Subversion was designed to store every history of a file, so this task is inherently difficult to do. However, it can be done.

  • As of November 2007 when I wrote this, there is a Windows installer for SVNService, thus the instructions in Setting up a Subversion Server under Windows about setting up SVNService is obsolete. Instead, once the installer is done, administer the installation using SVNServiceAdmin. Then go to Administrative Tools > Service to start SVNService.
